I always had a betel nut in my mouth. It had become more of a habit, helping me stay awake and relaxed amidst day-to-day chaos. But then, one day, chaos began. A chaos in which no nut could keep me calm. The chaos began inside my body. I began to struggle with daily activities, coughed frequently with white mucus, and had difficulty breathing. Over the course of seven months, I visited several hospitals, consulted numerous doctors, and received treatment for asthma and gastroesophageal reflux disease. However, there were no signs of improvement. My family insisted on a more advanced evaluation, so we visited Zydus Hospitals. At Zydus Hospitals, I was immediately taken for a High-Resolution CT scan of my chest. The scan revealed signs of bronchitis-bronchiolitis, which suggested tuberculosis. However, still unsure about the underlying cause of my mysterious respiratory distress, the doctors referred me to a team of specialists. I was referred to Dr Manoj Singh, a Pulmonologist & Critical care specialist. Upon closer inspection, the specialist discovered a mysterious lesion obstructing airflow in my right main bronchus (the passageway connecting the windpipe and the lungs). It turned out to be a betel nut that I had accidentally aspirated a year earlier, causing chronic respiratory distress and inflammation. Without further delay, the team of specialists at Zydus Hospitals carefully and precisely removed the betel nut from my bronchus. A 75-year-old woman with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperparathyroidism, and high calcium levels was referred to Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad. A scintigraphy scan (a diagnostic test used to evaluate parathyroid function) revealed that she had a right superior parathyroid adenoma, a benign growth in one of the parathyroid glands. These glands secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH), which helps regulate calcium levels in the body. Traditionally, surgery is the recommended solution in such cases, but the patient was hesitant. So Dr. Divyesh Dadhania and Dr. Saketh Rao, the team of Interventional Radiologists at Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad, performed the state's first microwave ablation for parathyroid adenoma. This was performed under sedation, and adequate hydro dissection was achieved to protect nearby organs from thermal injury before ablation. The entire procedure was carefully guided by continuous ultrasound imaging. Remarkably, her PTH levels returned to normal just two hours after the procedure. A diamond is known for its perfection; anything extra & it's just another stone. I know this as I've been a gem cutter all my life. A gem cutter must have sharp eyes to cut a perfect diamond, but I vividly remember that Monday when I couldn't see clearly and felt dizzy. I knew something was wrong when my head began to ache & my hands began to shake, which had never happened before. I was taken right away to the doctor. Upon regaining my senses, I learned that I had suffered a brain stroke. I had limited hip movement due to extensive muscle inflammation in the muscles connecting the lower back and upper leg. Following my brain stroke, I underwent two brain surgeries. However, the surgeries led to the formation of a new unwanted bone, causing total loss of hip movement. My concerned father sought numerous opinions from doctors in different cities. We even consulted doctors in Surat and Mumbai but were not satisfied with the outcomes. That's when one of our relatives recommended Zydus Hospitals. We went immediately to Zydus Hospitals, where I had a CT scan. The scan indicated that I had large muscle inflammation near my right hip, measuring about 30 * 6 * 5 cm. Although Dr. Yatin Desai, Sr. Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Zydus Hospitals, advised that the outcome might not be satisfactory, my father remained optimistic & insisted on proceeding with the surgery. I underwent surgery, where a bone block measuring 8 * 7 * 6 cm was removed from the front of the hip joint capsule. The surgery resulted in a significant improvement in hip movement. The foresighted doctor & his team also planned to provide radiation treatment to prevent the inflammation from recurring. Anything extra in a diamond or a human body limits its functionality. The severity of Paralysis can be controlled if the stroke patient receives treatment within the crucial 4.5 hours window. The golden window of only 4.5 hours could be a lifesaver for someone. At Zydus Hospitals, Dr. Arvind Sharma, once saved the life of a stroke patient by treating him during the golden hours. The patient was an Artist who had suffered a stroke and had the right side of his body paralyzed. He used to paint for a living, but a stroke forced him to put aside his passion. It took him 3 to 6 months to fully recover and return to doing what he loved. Following his recovery, he contacted Dr. Arvind Sharma, who at the time was unaware of the patient's profession, requested a passport-sized photograph. The artist then painted a portrait of Dr. Sharma, gave it to him as a gift. Not only the portrait but also the miraculous recovery of a stroke patient with such fine movements, which is extremely rare, left Dr. Sharma astonished.
