Once a highly active woman, now at the age of 55, she endured seven long years fighting the relentless grip of severe back pain and the rapid effects of accelerated aging-related changes on her spine. This struggle forced her into a stooped posture due to the bending of her spine at a relatively young age. While she sought the expertise of Dr. Niraj Vasavada, Sr. Spine Surgeon at Zydus Hospitals, he advised something unconventional. In more severe cases like hers, traditional corrective spine surgeries involve long, deep incisions, often up to 10 inches in length, significant blood loss of 800-900 ml, extensive muscle dissection, and a heightened risk of infection. However, Dr. Niraj presented her with a minimally invasive keyhole approach that she eventually opted for as it promised to mitigate many of the drawbacks associated with conventional surgeries. The surgical team skillfully made four to five small half-inch incisions and artfully realigned her deformed spine through these small openings. They also made a small abdominal incision to carefully remove the damaged disc and replace it with a new disc and a spacer, restoring her spine’s alignment. Remarkably, within 24 hours post-surgery, she could stand upright with her stoop corrected. Although this key-hole approach carried certain challenges such as the risk of damaging major vessels, however, Dr. Niraj’s extensive experience of successfully performing numerous such surgeries since 2015 proved invaluable. He is one of the very few surgeons in Western India who performs such multi-level minimally invasive surgeries with ease. Within weeks, she seamlessly resumed her daily activities, now pain-free. A 75-year-old woman with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperparathyroidism, and high calcium levels was referred to Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad. A scintigraphy scan (a diagnostic test used to evaluate parathyroid function) revealed that she had a right superior parathyroid adenoma, a benign growth in one of the parathyroid glands. These glands secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH), which helps regulate calcium levels in the body. Traditionally, surgery is the recommended solution in such cases, but the patient was hesitant. So Dr. Divyesh Dadhania and Dr. Saketh Rao, the team of Interventional Radiologists at Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad, performed the state's first microwave ablation for parathyroid adenoma. This was performed under sedation, and adequate hydro dissection was achieved to protect nearby organs from thermal injury before ablation. The entire procedure was carefully guided by continuous ultrasound imaging. Remarkably, her PTH levels returned to normal just two hours after the procedure. And within 24 hours, she was discharged from the hospital, relieved and happy. Despite years of infertility, I always wanted to be a mother. IVF was my last hope for realizing my motherhood dream. Stated a would be mother. I underwent my first IVF treatment, but it was unsuccessful. It didn't, however, lower my desire to be a mother. I underwent another IVF, which was also unsuccessful. After two more failed IVF attempts, anyone would have given up hope, but a part of me still desired to be a mother. My family and friends encouraged me to undergo IVF again.
