A diamond is known for its perfection; anything extra & it's just another stone. I know this as I've been a gem cutter all my life. A gem cutter must have sharp eyes to cut a perfect diamond, but I vividly remember that Monday when I couldn't see clearly and felt dizzy. I knew something was wrong when my head began to ache & my hands began to shake, which had never happened before. I was taken right away to the doctor. Upon regaining my senses, I learned that I had suffered a brain stroke. I had limited hip movement due to extensive muscle inflammation in the muscles connecting the lower back and upper leg. Following my brain stroke, I underwent two brain surgeries. However, the surgeries led to the formation of a new unwanted bone, causing total loss of hip movement. My concerned father sought numerous opinions from doctors in different cities. We even consulted doctors in Surat and Mumbai but were not satisfied with the outcomes. That's when one of our relatives recommended Zydus Hospitals. We went immediately to Zydus Hospitals, where I had a CT scan. The scan indicated that I had large muscle inflammation near my right hip, measuring about 30 * 6 * 5 cm. Although Dr. Yatin Desai, Sr. Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Zydus Hospitals, advised that the outcome might not be satisfactory, my father remained optimistic & insisted on proceeding with the surgery. I underwent surgery, where a bone block measuring 8 * 7 * 6 cm was removed from the front of the hip joint capsule. The surgery resulted in a significant improvement in hip movement. The foresighted doctor & his team also planned to provide radiation treatment to prevent the inflammation from recurring. Anything extra in a diamond or a human body limits its functionality. I'm a very active person. I've always been. Even in my 80s, I did not like sitting at home idly. From the time I wake up, I keep on doing things. One morning, I was having breakfast with my family when I noticed some weakness in my right upper and lower limbs. We went immediately to our trusted Zydus Hospitals to see a specialist before things got any worse. At Zydus Hospitals, Dr. Rushikesh examined me in his OPD after clinically identifying the cause, and because the symptoms had only begun 2-2.5 hours before, he and his team immediately activated Code White, the brain stroke code. I was immediately shifted to the Emergency Room, where I underwent an MRI. The scan revealed an artery blockage on the left side of the brain caused by a blood clot. The Doctors calmly explained the situation to my family, and it was decided to dissolve the blockage using a clot-busting drug, tenecteplase, via an intravenous (IV) line. I was shifted to the ICU and closely monitored. Within a few hours, I could feel an incredible improvement in the strength of my right arm and leg, going from complete non-functioning to normal power. By the end of the day, I had almost completely recovered and was shifted to a regular room the next day. I got back home after a couple of days. With all the exercises I do in my routine and now with the addition of physiotherapy, as advised by the doctors, to strengthen my muscles, I have a more active life. Zydus Hospitals recently organised training workshops at the Zydus School for Excellence at Godhavi. The program included multiple workshops, such as Hand Hygiene for Juniors, Basic Life Support Training for Senior Students, and Gynec Teen Care for Adolescent Girls. The Hand Hygiene Awareness Workshop for Juniors was to educate them on the importance of hand hygiene in the prevention of infectious disease spread. Meanwhile, Senior students were taught Basic Life Support Training such as CPR and First Aid skills to deal with life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, burns, and choking. The Gynec Teen Care workshop educated adolescent girls about the importance of gynecology care. Mr. Bhavik Agarwal, a 27-year-old medical representative, arrived at Zydus Hospitals, Ahmedabad, with severe headaches. Investigations revealed severe sinusitis on the left side, indicating frontoethmoidal disease. To address the condition, a procedure called Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) was performed under general anesthesia. However, after the surgery, Mr. Agarwal's muscle tone and power did not recover adequately for adequate respiration, despite the reversal of anesthesia. The anesthesia and ENT teams considered the possibility of cholinesterase deficiency, a rare condition that affects the elimination of anesthesia. Laboratory testing confirmed the diagnosis, with Mr. Agarwal's cholinesterase level at only 255, significantly below the normal range of 5900 to 12200. To treat the deficiency, the patient received one unit of fresh whole blood, as blood from first-degree relatives could not be used due to the risk of the same enzyme deficiency. This treatment proved successful, and within 12 hours, Mr. Agarwal was weaned off the ventilator, extubated, and discharged the next day without any weakness or further support required. The multidisciplinary team at Zydus Hospitals, including surgical, medical, anesthesia, critical care, and laboratory departments, worked together to promptly diagnose and treat this rare case.
