I'm a very active person. I've always been. Even in my 80s, I did not like sitting at home idly. From the time I wake up, I keep on doing things. One morning, I was having breakfast with my family when I noticed some weakness in my right upper and lower limbs. We went immediately to our trusted Zydus Hospitals to see a specialist before things got any worse. At Zydus Hospitals, Dr. Rushikesh examined me in his OPD after clinically identifying the cause, and because the symptoms had only begun 2-2.5 hours before, he and his team immediately activated Code White, the brain stroke code. I was immediately shifted to the Emergency Room, where I underwent an MRI. The scan revealed an artery blockage on the left side of the brain caused by a blood clot. The Doctors calmly explained the situation to my family, and it was decided to dissolve the blockage using a clot-busting drug, tenecteplase, via an intravenous (IV) line. I was shifted to the ICU and closely monitored. Within a few hours, I could feel an incredible improvement in the strength of my right arm and leg, going from complete non-functioning to normal power. By the end of the day, I had almost completely recovered and was shifted to a regular room the next day. I got back home after a couple of days. With all the exercises I do in my routine and now with the addition of physiotherapy, as advised by the doctors, to strengthen my muscles, I have a more active life. A remarkable transformation was witnessed in the health of a 34-year-old patient who presented with a history of basal ganglia hemorrhage and left-sided hemiplegia. Following the necessary treatment, the patient was referred to our Physiotherapy department. Initially, the patient exhibited severe muscle weakness, scoring 0 out of 5 on the power scale, and experienced significant difficulties with balance, coordination, and activities of daily living (ADL). However, after receiving continuous physiotherapy for a period of 10 days, during which various interventions such as Manual Exercises, Neurodevelopment therapy, Galvanic Stimulation, Tilt table for standing, Robotic device therapy, and Gait rehabilitation were employed, the patient's progress was nothing short of extraordinary. Upon discharge on the 10th day, the patient displayed a phenomenal improvement in his condition. Was able to sit, stand, and walk with moderate manual support, while his muscle power had significantly improved to a rating of 3+/5 (except in the hand and fingers). Notably, the patient's balance, sitting ability, and overall mobility had also improved, prompting a follow-up plan focused on enhancing ADL performance, achieving a correct gait pattern, and further enhancing standing balance and coordination. The severity of Paralysis can be controlled if the stroke patient receives treatment within the crucial 4.5 hours window. The golden window of only 4.5 hours could be a lifesaver for someone. At Zydus Hospitals, Dr. Arvind Sharma, once saved the life of a stroke patient by treating him during the golden hours. The patient was an Artist who had suffered a stroke and had the right side of his body paralyzed. He used to paint for a living, but a stroke forced him to put aside his passion. It took him 3 to 6 months to fully recover and return to doing what he loved. Following his recovery, he contacted Dr. Arvind Sharma, who at the time was unaware of the patient's profession, requested a passport-sized photograph. The artist then painted a portrait of Dr. Sharma, gave it to him as a gift. Not only the portrait but also the miraculous recovery of a stroke patient with such fine movements, which is extremely rare, left Dr. Sharma astonished. In 2019, a young female presented at Zydus Hospitals with a large pituitary macroadenoma affecting her optic chiasma. After consultation, Dr. Dipak Patel, our Senior Neurosurgeon, referred her to Dr. Om Lakhani, our Endocrinologist. In coordination with the Laboratory department, we found the 'high-dose hook effect,' or the “prozone phenomenon," where extremely high levels of prolactin (PRL) can interfere with the assay and produce low readings. This was one of those cases which was prevented by doing undiluted and in 1:100 dilution before releasing the report. Instead of surgery, our experts pursued a medication-based approach to 'melt' the tumor. The patient underwent treatment with cabergoline and hormone replacement therapy. Remarkably, after just one month of follow-up, a repeat MRI revealed a 1/5th reduction in tumor volume and restored normal visual fields. Fast forward to 2023, when the same patient returned to Zydus Hospitals for a different reason - the birth of her child. She was on steroids and was advised a CS delivery. Her sonography just 24 hours before the surgery showed oligohydramnios, which resulted in having to do the surgery under General Anesthesia. Dr. Namita Shah, our Gynecologist & High-risk Pregnancy Obstetrician, successfully performed a cesarean section to bring her child into the world. Recently, Mr. Arvind Sumerwal Doshi was brought to Zydus after suddenly developing headaches, weakness, heaviness in his eyes, and drowsiness. His primary treatment was at a local hospital, where an MRI with Venogram revealed a space-occupying solid cystic SOL in his left cerebellar and pons area, with surrounding edema and compression of the fourth ventricle, suggesting a neoplastic etiology. He was then transferred to Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad for further management. Under the care of Dr. Arvind Sharma, our Neurologist and Stroke specialist, and Dr. Dipak Patel, our Senior Neurosurgeon, and his team, Mr. Doshi underwent left suboccipital craniectomy and microsurgical excision under general anesthesia. Patient miss Devanshiba, a 20-year-old female was suffering from tethered cord with lipoma in dorsal and sacral region of her back since birth. She was also suffering from sinus and purulent discharge from it. There were multiple pathologies at 2 levels - where the upper level pathologies were duplication of cord separated by bony spur with lipoma & infected dermal sinus; and the lower level pathology was low lying, tethered cord. Keeping her conditions in mind, the patient was operated upon by Dr. Dipak Patel, our Senior Neurosurgeon and his team. Patient miss Devanshiba, a 20-year-old female was suffering from tethered cord with lipoma in dorsal and sacral region of her back since birth. She was also suffering from sinus and purulent discharge from it. There were multiple pathologies at 2 levels - where the upper level pathologies were duplication of cord separated by bony spur with lipoma & infected dermal sinus; and the lower level pathology was low lying, tethered cord.
