After enduring a decade-long battle with insomnia, I was on the verge of giving up hope. I had tried every possible solution, from lifestyle changes to consulting numerous doctors, and desperate for a solution, I even travelled to neighbouring countries but all my efforts were in vain. Hope was dwindling until I arrived at Zydus Hospitals, Ahmedabad to consult Dr. Lav Selarka, Senior Cochlear Implant Surgeon & ENT Specialist. His diagnosis was a revelation, and he identified underlying problems in my nose and throat. A sleep endoscopy and a CT scan revealed a multitude of issues: severe obstructive sleep apnea, septum deviation, sinusitis, massive adenoid hypertrophy, enlarged tonsils, a hypertrophied palate, and lingual tonsillar enlargement. Dr. Lav devised a comprehensive surgical plan to address all five problems in a single procedure. After countless sleepless nights, I finally experienced a restful slumber following the procedure. I'm a very active person. I've always been. Even in my 80s, I did not like sitting at home idly. From the time I wake up, I keep on doing things. One morning, I was having breakfast with my family when I noticed some weakness in my right upper and lower limbs. We went immediately to our trusted Zydus Hospitals to see a specialist before things got any worse. At Zydus Hospitals, Dr. Rushikesh examined me in his OPD after clinically identifying the cause, and because the symptoms had only begun 2-2.5 hours before, he and his team immediately activated Code White, the brain stroke code. I was immediately shifted to the Emergency Room, where I underwent an MRI. The scan revealed an artery blockage on the left side of the brain caused by a blood clot. The Doctors calmly explained the situation to my family, and it was decided to dissolve the blockage using a clot-busting drug, tenecteplase, via an intravenous (IV) line. I was shifted to the ICU and closely monitored. Within a few hours, I could feel an incredible improvement in the strength of my right arm and leg, going from complete non-functioning to normal power. By the end of the day, I had almost completely recovered and was shifted to a regular room the next day. I got back home after a couple of days. With all the exercises I do in my routine and now with the addition of physiotherapy, as advised by the doctors, to strengthen my muscles, I have a more active life. Everything was fine when I went home and was welcomed with, "How was your day?" and how that voice always calmed me before I replied, "Great." However, nothing was fine after that one day, when my right ear began to discharge pus and I began to hear less from that ear. There was silence all around me. I went to several hospitals, had my ear checked, and received primary care, but there was no improvement. When the solutions seemed out of reach, I became increasingly frustrated as it affected my daily life. That's when I went to Zydus Hospital to consult with Dr. Lav Selarka, Senior Cochlear Implant Surgeon and ENT Specialist. At Zydus Hospitals, I underwent preliminary tests, during which the doctors identified the root cause—a hole in my eardrum and damaged ear bones, which led to pus discharge and decreased hearing. Finally, with the root cause identified, there was a glimmer of hope for a cure. The doctor advised surgery, and I trusted him and his team to guide me through this journey. On the day of the surgery, I was nervous but hopeful. Despite years of infertility, I always wanted to be a mother. IVF was my last hope for realizing my motherhood dream. Stated a would be mother. I underwent my first IVF treatment, but it was unsuccessful. It didn't, however, lower my desire to be a mother. I underwent another IVF, which was also unsuccessful. After two more failed IVF attempts, anyone would have given up hope, but a part of me still desired to be a mother. My family and friends encouraged me to undergo IVF again. And I did, but this time at Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad. And I got pregnant on the first attempt with twins after undergoing a sequential embryo transfer. But fate had other plans. Despite being on prophylactic cervical cerclage care due to obesity, GDM, and chronic vaginal infection, I experienced premature rupture of the membranes at 25+5 weeks. I was immediately taken for an emergency caesarean section, during which I delivered two ultra-preterm babies, weighing 890 & 930 gms, respectively. But, as they say, "Where there is hope, there is faith, and where there is faith, miracles happen." And then a miracle happened. After two months of fighting for their lives, both of my babies came home in good health. Eventually, with God’s grace and the relentless efforts of the team at Zydus Hospitals, especially Dr. Reitu Patel, Gynaecologist, IVF & Infertility Specialist, and Dr. Raman Patel, Sr. Gynaecologist, IVF & Infertility Specialist, and Endoscopic & Robotic Surgeon, my dream of becoming a mother became a reality. Recently, Mr. Arvind Sumerwal Doshi was brought to Zydus after suddenly developing headaches, weakness, heaviness in his eyes, and drowsiness. His primary treatment was at a local hospital, where an MRI with Venogram revealed a space-occupying solid cystic SOL in his left cerebellar and pons area, with surrounding edema and compression of the fourth ventricle, suggesting a neoplastic etiology. He was then transferred to Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad for further management. A would-be-mother and her husband recently traveled to Zydus Hospitals from Bhuj seeking medical help. Two obstetricians in Bhuj had given them a grim prognosis, stating that there was a risk to the life of both the mother and the baby. Hearing about Dr. Namita Shah, our Gynecologist & High-risk Pregnancy Obstetrician, they promptly sought her expertise. The patient presented with severe thrombocytopenia at full term, experiencing early labor pains. In addition, she had a history of a previous cesarean section and abnormal liver function, identified through tests recommended by Dr. Namita. Despite receiving platelet transfusions, her platelet count remained around 20,000, posing a significant risk to her life. With help from Haematologist Dr. Dilip Srinivasan, who was involved due to low platelet count, and Gastroenterologist Dr. Hardik Kotecha, who was involved due to abnormal liver function test results, the combined efforts of the OT team and Anesthesia specialists, comprehensive care was provided. Dr. Namita performed an emergency cesarean section, and a healthy baby was safely delivered under the supervision of Dr. Anita Srinivasan, our Neonatologist. Mother and child were recommended to stay in the Critical Care unit for one-day post-operation under Dr. Pratibha's and her team's observation. Patient Ms. Muskan Kassam came from Tanzania suffering from Benign intra cranial Hypertension; and was diagnosed by Dr. Arvind Sharma, our Neurologist & Stroke specialist. On arrival to the hospital, she was already having decreased vision in both her eyes, and it was difficult to convince her immediately after diagnosis that she requires early surgery to save her vision, that too in a country she was visiting for the first time. Despite it all, we managed to convince her, and she was then operated by Dr. Dipak Patel, our Senior Neurosurgeon & his team for Lumboperitoneal Shunt.
