A would-be-mother and her husband recently traveled to Zydus Hospitals from Bhuj seeking medical help. Two obstetricians in Bhuj had given them a grim prognosis, stating that there was a risk to the life of both the mother and the baby. Hearing about Dr. Namita Shah, our Gynecologist & High-risk Pregnancy Obstetrician, they promptly sought her expertise. The patient presented with severe thrombocytopenia at full term, experiencing early labor pains. In addition, she had a history of a previous cesarean section and abnormal liver function, identified through tests recommended by Dr. Namita. Despite receiving platelet transfusions, her platelet count remained around 20,000, posing a significant risk to her life. With help from Haematologist Dr. Dilip Srinivasan, who was involved due to low platelet count, and Gastroenterologist Dr. Hardik Kotecha, who was involved due to abnormal liver function test results, the combined efforts of the OT team and Anesthesia specialists, comprehensive care was provided. Dr. Namita performed an emergency cesarean section, and a healthy baby was safely delivered under the supervision of Dr. Anita Srinivasan, our Neonatologist. Mother and child were recommended to stay in the Critical Care unit for one-day post-operation under Dr. Pratibha's and her team's observation. Recently, patient Deepshikha Jindal came to Zydus with an 11 cm fibroid. Upon admission, her Hemoglobin level was a concerning 6.3, and recognizing the need for intervention, the medical team acted swiftly, providing her with blood transfusion and optimizing her condition before the surgery. A laparoscopic myomectomy was performed, which in itself was a big challenge. Moreover, the fibroid, which was so large - was an additional complication, as it had to be meticulously removed by morcellating into small strips, a task even more difficult due to Deepshikha's slim habitus and 46 kg body weight. However, Dr. Riddhi Shah Patel executed a flawless laparoscopic surgery lasting 4 long hours, and successfully removed the fibroid. Patient miss Devanshiba, a 20-year-old female was suffering from tethered cord with lipoma in dorsal and sacral region of her back since birth. She was also suffering from sinus and purulent discharge from it. There were multiple pathologies at 2 levels - where the upper level pathologies were duplication of cord separated by bony spur with lipoma & infected dermal sinus; and the lower level pathology was low lying, tethered cord. Keeping her conditions in mind, the patient was operated upon by Dr. Dipak Patel, our Senior Neurosurgeon and his team. At upper level, excision of bony spur, repair of dural tube, excision of lipoma & excision of dermal sinus was done; whereas at lower level, detethering of cord was done. Baby Shanvi was just over a year old when she fell ill with a fever and cough. Her parents assumed it was a viral illness and waited for her to recover. However, her condition worsened, and she developed viral pneumonia, which eventually progressed to a lung abscess. Worried about her lack of improvement, her parents rushed her to the ER at Zydus Hospitals, where she arrived in critical condition. Our skilled pediatric surgeon, Dr. Parthiv Shah, and Dr. Ankit Mehta, our Pediatrician & Critical Care Specialist, quickly assessed her condition and recommended right lower lobectomy surgery. The procedure was successful, and Shanvi was discharged after a recovery period. In addition, the parents, knowing that other families in similar situations could benefit from their experience, helped make an awareness video for pediatric surgery and the PICU department of the hospital. We wish Shanvi a healthy and happy future, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey to recovery. Patient Ms. Muskan Kassam came from Tanzania suffering from Benign intra cranial Hypertension; and was diagnosed by Dr. Arvind Sharma, our Neurologist & Stroke specialist. On arrival to the hospital, she was already having decreased vision in both her eyes, and it was difficult to convince her immediately after diagnosis that she requires early surgery to save her vision, that too in a country she was visiting for the first time.
