Despite years of infertility, I always wanted to be a mother. IVF was my last hope for realizing my motherhood dream. Stated a would be mother.
I underwent my first IVF treatment, but it was unsuccessful. It didn't, however, lower my desire to be a mother. I underwent another IVF, which was also unsuccessful. After two more failed IVF attempts, anyone would have given up hope, but a part of me still desired to be a mother.
My family and friends encouraged me to undergo IVF again. And I did, but this time at Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad.
And I got pregnant on the first attempt with twins after undergoing a sequential embryo transfer. But fate had other plans. Despite being on prophylactic cervical cerclage care due to obesity, GDM, and chronic vaginal infection, I experienced premature rupture of the membranes at 25+5 weeks. I was immediately taken for an emergency caesarean section, during which I delivered two ultra-preterm babies, weighing 890 & 930 gms, respectively.
But, as they say, "Where there is hope, there is faith, and where there is faith, miracles happen." And then a miracle happened. After two months of fighting for their lives, both of my babies came home in good health.
Eventually, with God’s grace and the relentless efforts of the team at Zydus Hospitals, especially Dr. Reitu Patel, Gynaecologist, IVF & Infertility Specialist, and Dr. Raman Patel, Sr. Gynaecologist, IVF & Infertility Specialist, and Endoscopic & Robotic Surgeon, my dream of becoming a mother became a reality. The ecstasy is visible on both the doctors holding my bundles of joy.
Today, on World IVF Day, we salute Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe for giving the world this innovative technology, which has expanded the options for infertile couples.
