A would-be-mother and her husband recently traveled to Zydus Hospitals from Bhuj seeking medical help. Two obstetricians in Bhuj had given them a grim prognosis, stating that there was a risk to the life of both the mother and the baby. Hearing about Dr. Namita Shah, our Gynecologist & High-risk Pregnancy Obstetrician, they promptly sought her expertise. The patient presented with severe thrombocytopenia at full term, experiencing early labor pains. In addition, she had a history of a previous cesarean section and abnormal liver function, identified through tests recommended by Dr. Namita. Despite receiving platelet transfusions, her platelet count remained around 20,000, posing a significant risk to her life. With help from Haematologist Dr. Dilip Srinivasan, who was involved due to low platelet count, and Gastroenterologist Dr. Hardik Kotecha, who was involved due to abnormal liver function test results, the combined efforts of the OT team and Anesthesia specialists, comprehensive care was provided. Dr. Namita performed an emergency cesarean section, and a healthy baby was safely delivered under the supervision of Dr. Anita Srinivasan, our Neonatologist. Mother and child were recommended to stay in the Critical Care unit for one-day post-operation under Dr. Pratibha's and her team's observation.
